HOPEWELL TWP. — The United Way of Beaver County smashed its fundraising goal for its annual campaign, collecting $877,275 for partner agencies and charities across the county.
That number was released Thursday night during a recognition dinner that honored donors and other friends of the United Way. The dinner, held at the Club at Shadow Lakes in Hopewell Township, attracted about 320 people.
The goal for fundraising campaign was set at $750,000.
Mike Rubino, the executive director of the local United Way, said Friday morning that he was blown away by the support from the community during this last giving campaign. He made more than 100 speeches to local businesses and other entities during the campaign, and he got to see his hard work pay off Thursday night.
“It was spectacular,” he said about the dinner.
This was the third consecutive year the United Way beat its fundraising goal. Over that time, the United Way has raised about $2.5 million for local organizations. While Rubino took time to celebrate Thursday night, it’s already time to start the new fundraising campaign. He said he will make his first speech of the new fundraising campaign on Monday.
Several volunteers and outstanding organizations were given recognition awards Thursday night. Those honored included the Salvation Army, Aliquippa Giant Eagle, Beaver County Building Trades, Geneva College, Eaton Corp., McCarl’s Inc., Robert Garvin and Louis Ferrario.
