UNITED WAY OF BEAVER COUNTY AWARDS $70,000 IN GRANTS TO HELP ALICE
Monaca, PA: The United Way of Beaver County (UWBC) is thrilled to announce that $70,000 in grants have been awarded from The ALICE Fund to twelve Beaver County non-profit organizations serving ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Restrained, Employed) and those in poverty.
Through the mini-grants, the UWBC is helping to fund the following organizations and programs:
- Aliquippa Impact – Food for Summer Camp program
- Beaver County Educational Trust – Growing with Books Program with a focus on Spanish speaking readers
- Tiger Pause – Food/tutoring/childcare for after-school program
- Center for Hope – Kids in the Kitchen Program – teaching kids how to cook and grocery shop
- Communicycle – Purchase of parts to restore bicycles
- Crop and Kettle – Costs associated with books/uniforms/professional tools/certification
- Families Matter Food Pantry – Food costs
- Healing Hunger Beaver County – School food pantries and food costs for community events
- Neighborhood North Museum of Play – Expansion of after-school program by one day per week
- Vincent DePaul Society/Our Lady of the Valley Conference – Food costs
- The Center in Midland – Increased capacity for Youth Development Programs
- The Franklin Center of Beaver County – Rent and Water service assistance for residents of Aliquippa
An alarming 38% of the households in Beaver County are ALICE. ALICE populations are found in every town, borough, and municipality throughout Beaver County, with the percentages of ALICE households ranging from 17% to a distressing 73%! ALICE households are unable to afford the basics of housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, and technology. (Source: www.unitedforalice.org).
