United Way of Beaver County is proud to announce that its Executive Director, Mary Lou Harju, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the United Way of Pennsylvania.
The United Way of Pennsylvania serves as the statewide association for local United Ways, working to advance public policy, strengthen local United Way organizations, and address critical issues impacting communities across the Commonwealth. Election to the board reflects recognition of leadership, experience, and commitment to community impact.
In her new role, Harju will help guide statewide strategies that support PA211, ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households, promote collaborative solutions, and strengthen the capacity of local United Ways to meet increasing needs across Pennsylvania.
"It is an honor to be elected to the United Way of Pennsylvania Board of Directors," said Harju. "I look forward to working alongside colleagues from across the state to advocate for policies and programs that strengthen families and communities. This role also provides an important opportunity to elevate the needs and perspectives of Beaver County at the state level."
Harju has served as Executive Director of United Way of Beaver County for three years with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and measurable impact. Under her leadership, United Way of Beaver County has expanded initiatives addressing the needs of the 40% of Beaver County households that cannot afford basic essentials. Her focus has been primarily in the areas of workforce development, community engagement, and food insecurity, while strengthening partnerships with nonprofits, businesses, and community leaders.
The United Way of Beaver County brings people and organizations together to improve lives and strengthen our community. By supporting programs that promote assistance with basic needs, education, financial stability, youth opportunities and physical and mental health, United Way creates lasting change and a brighter future for everyone who calls Beaver County home.
